Little Man- God of War

So it has been 4 weeks exactly since we said good-bye to our little guy. He was 10 1/2 years old. And, until I met Jenny and the boys, the one I spoiled. I was not the alpha dog. I admit that I let him walk all over me- literally and figuratively. He slept with me, despite my resolute determination not to let him. That resolution quickly faded as soon as he discovered he could jump up on my bed. That was it-

Ares loved many things. And loved them hard. His dragon- a little rubber squeaky thing I had to hide from him because he wouldn't stop squeaking it. His balls- that he would chase forever. His blanket- that he would paw into an igloo. His bed in the sun- where he would sleep all day if left alone. His food sneaking- which was often. His boys- late to arrive in his life, but fiercely protective of. His Jenny- his true Alpha. His coffee- thanks mom. His beer- yeah that one is my fault.

What he did not love was his picture being taken. I think he subscribed to the belief that his soul would be stolen if his picture was taken. He also did not love wearing his sweaters. He wore them- but did not like them.

Ares was part gazelle, deer, rabbit, cat, dog and a plethora of other animals. He could run like the wind and jump onto the counter without a second thought. He was all heart. He was a pain in the ass. He was my boy. He is missed. So much. He provided so much healing for this house.

The time may come when it feels right to get another dog. It is not now. He still is in my heart and my head. J also feels this way. We will know when it is time. Regardless, Ares will always be with us. Every time the doorbell rings I tell him not to bark. I still go to let him out one more time before bed. I still look for him when I come home. He was a little fucker. But he took up a lot of space.

Sausalito visit

Jenny and I went on a little drive last Saturday. This is something we like to do quite a bit. Just get in the car and go. We headed to Bodega Bay and ended up in Sausalito. Last minute decision- not poor navigation skills (this time). While it is a cute little place- we did not spend a lot of time there because it was crawling with people... No where to park. Took some nice pictures though. Loved the Defiance boat in the background.

My Class this year???

Our PTA had family movie night last Friday. Free popcorn and candy for all. Thought the color overload was great. Also- the candies are fairly indicative of the some kids I know.....

Old Photos, New Tricks

I haven't been out much to use the camera but I have been playing with retouching and such. This is a picture I took while we were in Redding. I like both versions; each of them evokes a different mood I think. I like the whole past and future colliding theme with both. The part I love best is the sweetness coming from the holding of hands- a sort of "we're in this together" kind of thing.

Harmonious Cream

On Jenny's last birthday trip we went south. Visited Monterey Bay, Carmel, and Morro Bay. Yes, we did stop in on Hearst Castle. Have many pictures from there.

Harmony is a little artist town. Every time we passed by the sign, we made a joke about it. On our way home we decided to stop by and check it out. This little bitty place became Jenny's favorite part of the trip.

Tea time

Annual O'Hara girls tea today. Had lot of fun and laughs. Walked a bit afterwards but the wind was biting and cold so we cut out early and enjoyed an afternoon at mom's.

Puppy Love

So for a dog that doesn't like kids, Ares is pretty stuck on Austin. They have a love affair that brings them both happiness and comfort. Ares will lay with Austin while we watch a movie and Austin is the first one out to throw the ball for Ares. Also- they are both pretty stubborn....
